Rod studied fine art at the Nuneaton School of Art and later trained as a Graphic Designer at the Wolverhampton College of Art.  After living most of his life in the Midlands, thirteen years ago he moved to Bridgwater in the heart of the Somerset Levels. He now lives in Burnham on Sea and is enjoying trying to capture the wonderful sunsets and amazing light which reflect on the Bristol Channel.

 

His paintings are mostly in mixed media and Rod describes them as contemporary but at the same time keeping a realistic element. Inspiration comes from anything that catches his eye as a potential painting, this could be a view, an interesting piece of architecture or observing people but, of course, recently most of his work has been inspired by the wonderful Somerset countryside.

 

Briefly, the main three elements that he aims for are colour, texture and movement.

 

As well as having much of his work selected for open exhibitions over the years and winning some prizes, he has also held his own exhibitions in the UK and some of his paintings are hanging in private collections in the USA, Germany, Italy and Australia.
